What E02 actually means
The fridge has lost a sensible reading from the sensor on the fridge's evaporator — the cold plate that does the actual cooling — so it is flagging that sensor as faulty.
On the TH60TLX the control board watches a sensor clipped to the fridge evaporator, which is how it knows when the coil has iced up and when to run a defrost. If the reading goes open-circuit or short, the board can no longer trust it and puts up this code rather than run blind. The fridge will often keep cooling in a fallback pattern, but defrost timing is no longer being managed properly, so ice can build up on the coil and cooling gradually gets worse.
What E02 looks like on a Teknix fridge freezer

What usually causes it
- The evaporator sensor itself has failed internally — much the most common finding
- A corroded or damp connection where the sensor plugs into the wiring, often after a defrost water problem
- Chafed or pinched sensor wiring in the cabinet run
- A fault on the control board reading the sensor input, which is the less common of the two
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Switch off at the wall for a minute and back on — if the code was a one-off communication glitch it will clear
- Check the door is closing fully and the seal is not folded or held open by an item on a shelf, since constant warm air makes icing worse while the sensor is out of action
- Look at the back wall inside the fridge for a visible sheet of ice, and make sure food and packaging are not pressed against the air vents
