What is actually happening

The door interlock is deliberately stubborn: it will not release while the machine believes there is water in the drum, and on most machines it holds for a minute or two after the end of a cycle. A door that never releases is either a machine that still thinks it is full, or an interlock that has failed — often with the handle mechanism broken separately.

The Sharp fault codes that point at this

A Sharp washing machine will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to door will not open:

E01 — The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start the wash.
E02 — The machine isn't getting enough water in the time it expects, so it has stopped and shown E02.
E03 — The machine has tried to pump the water out and hasn't got the result it expected, so it stops with the drum still holding water.
E04 — The machine has found more water in the drum than it should have, so it has stopped the wash and is pumping the excess out to avoid a flood.
E10 — The machine can't get a sensible reading from the sensor that tells it how much water is in the drum, so it has stopped rather than risk overfilling or running dry.
F02 — The machine has tried to pump the water out and it hasn't gone within the expected time, so it has stopped.
