AEG E62 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E62 actually means

The dryer has cut the power to its heater because the control board can't keep the heating circuit switched on reliably, so it drops into a cooling cycle and your load comes out damp.

On these Electrolux-group (ENV06) control boards, E62 points at the power relay that feeds the heater unit. It is also what you get when the heater's own auto-reset thermostat keeps tripping: the board tries several times to restore power to the heater, and when the fault keeps coming back it gives up, logs E62 and runs a forced cooling cycle instead of heating. The drum will usually still turn, but nothing dries properly.

What usually causes it

A blocked or furred-up fluff filter causing the heater to overheat and cut out repeatedly
The heater unit itself failed, or its safety thermostat tripping again and again
The heater relay on the control board worn out or burnt (a known weak point on these boards)
Damaged or loose wiring in the heater circuit
Faulty main electronic board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Clean the fluff filter thoroughly — on vented models fitted with the later 75°C heater, a dirty filter alone is enough to trigger this code at the end of a cycle
Turn the dryer off at the wall and leave it several minutes so the heater cools below its reset temperature, then try a short cycle
Check the vent hose isn't kinked, crushed behind the machine or blocked, and that the outlet is clear
If your model has a condenser unit or secondary filter that you can remove by hand, rinse it out and refit it
Make sure the room isn't sealed tight — restricted airflow makes overheating worse
