AEG E65 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E65 actually means

On these Env06-board AEG dryers the fan that pulls air through the drum is switched by a triac on the electronic board. E65 is raised when the board sees no correct response from that circuit — either the triac has failed open, or the fan motor itself or its wiring is at fault. Because heating without airflow is a real risk, the control shuts things down instead of carrying on.

What E65 looks like on a AEG tumble dryer

Machine door won't open
Door won't lock or click shut
Door lock light flashing
Door stuck shut with the load inside

What usually causes it

Fan motor wiring disconnected or a loose plug on the motor
Failed triac on the electronic control board
Fan motor itself faulty or seized
Damaged wiring between board and fan motor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and start a cycle again — if it was a one-off glitch it may clear
Clear the door filter and, on condenser models, the filter in the base, and check the condenser is clean — poor airflow makes the fan work harder
Make sure nothing is blocking the vent hose or air outlet and that the hose is not crushed or kinked
