What E93 actually means

The dryer's control board has lost or is holding the wrong settings for the machine it's fitted to, so it refuses to run a cycle.

Every AEG dryer control board carries a stored configuration — effectively a list of what model it is and which cycles and sensors it should be driving. E93 means the board has read that stored data and found it doesn't add up, so it aborts and drops the machine to off rather than run a programme it can't verify. It isn't a drum, heater or airflow fault, and nothing you do with the load or the filters will change it.

What E93 looks like on a AEG tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a AEG tumble dryer, E93 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end
  • Takes hours to dry
  • Not drying properly
  • Takes hours to dry a load
  • Getting hot but the clothes stay damp
  • No function at all

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Corrupted or missing configuration data held in the board's memory
  • Main electronic control board failing
  • A replacement board fitted without being configured for the model
  • Mains supply disturbance while the board was writing its settings

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the dryer off at the wall socket, leave it a minute, then switch back on and try a cycle — occasionally the board reads its settings correctly on a fresh start.
  2. Check the dryer is on its own socket rather than sharing an extension lead with other appliances, as unstable supply can upset the board.

Can I fix AEG E93 myself?

There are 2 checks you can safely do yourself first.
