What E94 actually means

The dryer's control board has lost or mangled the settings that tell it how to run a drying cycle, so it abandons the programme.

Inside the main electronic board is a small memory chip (the EEPROM) holding the configuration for your particular model — which cycles it offers and how they should run. When the board reads that data back and finds it doesn't match what it expects, it stops the cycle rather than run a programme it can't trust. The fault puts this down to incorrect EEPROM configuration or a failed main board.

What E94 looks like on a AEG tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a AEG tumble dryer, E94 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start
  • Machine tripping the electrics
  • E94 flashing on the display
  • Beeping and showing E94

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Corrupted configuration data stored in the control board's memory
  • A failed main electronic board
  • A replacement board fitted without being configured to the model
  • Electrical disturbance or a mains interruption scrambling the stored settings

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then back on and try a cycle — an occasional one-off glitch will clear
  2. If the machine has recently had a control board replaced, mention that to whoever attends, as the board may not have been configured for your model
