What E32 actually means
The dryer's damp-sensing circuit is reading a signal that's too weak, so the machine can't tell how wet the load is and abandons the cycle.
AEG dryers with the Env06 control board judge dryness by passing a small current between metal sensor contacts in the drum and measuring the frequency of the signal that comes back. E32 is logged when that frequency reads too low — in other words the board is getting little or nothing back from the sensor. Because the dryer has no reliable way of knowing when the clothes are dry, it interrupts the cycle rather than running blind.
What E32 looks like on a AEG tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a AEG tumble dryer, E32 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying properly
- Takes hours to dry a load
- Getting hot but the clothes stay damp
- Stops after a few minutes
- Clothes still damp at the end

What usually causes it
- Sensor contacts in the drum coated with fabric softener, lint or limescale
- Damaged or loose wiring between the sensor and the control board
- Worn or faulty brushes in the sensing circuit
- Faulty main electronic board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Wipe the metal sensor strips inside the drum with a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid, then dry them — a film of fabric conditioner is a common reason the signal reads low
- Clean the lint filter and the condenser filter so airflow and drying are normal
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and start a cycle to see whether the fault returns
- Try a normal load rather than a very small or nearly dry one, as the sensor needs damp fabric in contact with it
