Creda E02 hob: what it means & what to check

What E02 actually means

The hob has measured the electricity coming into it and decided it is outside the range it will run on, so it has shut the heating down.

Induction hobs monitor their own incoming mains voltage because the power electronics are sensitive to it. On the C60ISC, E02 is the hob's way of saying the supply it is seeing is too high, too low or too unstable to cook safely on, so it stops heating rather than risk the induction electronics. Zones typically go dead with the code showing and any fans may keep running for a while.

What E02 looks like on a Creda hob

Not heating up
Takes ages to get to temperature

What usually causes it

A genuine supply problem in the house — voltage dipping or fluctuating, or a shared circuit under heavy load
The hob wired into an inadequate or overloaded supply rather than its own correctly rated circuit
A loose or deteriorating connection at the hob's mains terminal
A fault in the hob's own power board or voltage-sensing circuit falsely reporting bad supply

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or at its isolator switch for a minute, then back on — a one-off voltage dip can leave the code stuck on display
Note whether lights dim or other appliances misbehave at the same time, or whether it only happens when something heavy like a shower or kettle is running; that points at the supply rather than the hob
Check the consumer unit to see whether a breaker or RCD has tripped, and reset it once if it has
If the code came on straight after other electrical work in the kitchen, mention that to whoever attends — it is often the clue
