What E02 actually means
The machine isn't getting water in, so it has stopped and shown E02.
Your washing machine expects the drum to fill to a set level within a certain time. When not enough water arrives, it halts the programme and displays E02 rather than running dry. Nine times out of ten the cause is on the water supply side rather than inside the machine.
What usually causes it
- Water tap behind the machine turned off or only part open
- Kinked, twisted or trapped fill hose
- Blocked mesh filter in the fill hose where it screws to the tap
- Low mains water pressure, or no water to the house
- Frozen tap or supply pipe in cold weather
- Faulty water inlet valve or pressure sensor inside the machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the machine is fully open
- Run the kitchen cold tap to confirm the house has water and decent pressure
- Look behind the machine and straighten the fill hose if it is kinked or squashed
- If the START/PAUSE button hasn't been pressed, or a delay timer is set, the machine won't call for water yet
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the cycle
- In freezing weather, warm the room and give the pipework time to thaw before trying again
