What E03 actually means

The machine can't get the water out of the drum, so it has stopped and put E03 on the display.

E03 is ElectriQ's drainage fault. The machine expects the water level to drop within a set time once the drain pump runs; if the drum is still full, it halts the cycle rather than carrying on into a spin. You'll usually find the door locked with a drum full of water and washing that hasn't been spun.

What E03 looks like on a ElectriQ washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a ElectriQ washer dryer, E03 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Blocked pump filter — coins, hair grips, tissue, threads and fluff
  • Drain hose kinked, twisted or crushed behind the machine
  • Drain hose or standpipe blocked with detergent sludge, or frozen in cold weather
  • Drain hose outlet fitted too high — it needs to sit between 65 and 100cm from the floor
  • Blocked or failed drain pump (impeller jammed or worn)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall before doing anything with water in the drum.
  2. Clean the pump filter at the bottom front. Have a shallow tray and towels ready — a full drum holds a lot of water, and it comes out faster than you expect. Check the filter chamber for coins, buttons and matted fluff before refitting it, and make sure it screws back in tight.
  3. Pull the machine forward gently and look at the drain hose along its whole length for kinks or crushed sections, particularly where it goes behind the machine or into a cabinet.
  4. Check the hose end is between 65 and 100cm off the floor, and that it isn't pushed so far down the standpipe that it sits in dirty water.
  5. In cold weather, if the hose runs through an unheated space, it may be frozen — warm the room and let it thaw before trying again.
  6. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then turn the programme dial to OFF, reselect a spin or drain and restart.

Which ElectriQ models show E03

E03 means the same thing on all 5 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
