Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What C02 actually means

The machine isn't getting water into the main wash compartment, so it has stopped rather than run a cycle with an empty drum.

On these Electrolux machines C02 relates to water loading through the main wash compartment — it is also the position the service test uses to prove that circuit. The control board watches the pressure sensor for the water level to climb, and if it doesn't rise as expected within the allowed time, it halts and shows the code. The usual sign for the owner is a machine that sits there with the door locked and no sound of water coming in.

What usually causes it

  • Water tap turned off or only part open
  • Kinked or trapped fill hose behind the machine
  • Blocked filter in the fill hose or a clogged detergent drawer inlet
  • Main wash fill valve not opening electrically
  • Pressure sensor or wiring giving a false low-level reading

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check the cold tap feeding the machine is fully open.
  2. Look behind the machine and make sure the fill hose isn't kinked, crushed or trapped against the wall.
  3. Run a tap elsewhere in the house to confirm you have normal mains pressure.
  4. Pull the detergent drawer out, rinse it under the tap and clear any set detergent from the housing.
  5. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a short cycle.

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
