Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What C08 actually means

The dryer has stopped because its temperature sensor is giving readings the control board doesn't accept.

On these C-tronic Electrolux dryers the control constantly watches the air temperature through a sensor in the drum airflow. If that reading disappears or comes back as a value that can't be real, the machine flags C08 and halts rather than run the heater blind. It's a protective stop — without a trustworthy temperature reading there is nothing to stop the drum overheating.

What usually causes it

  • A failed temperature sensor (the usual finding)
  • A loose or corroded plug on the sensor wiring
  • Damaged wiring between the sensor and the control board
  • Heavy lint blockage causing wildly abnormal temperatures
  • Less often, a fault on the control board itself

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a cycle — the odd one-off reading clears.
  2. Clean the door filter and any secondary filter, and empty the condenser area filter if your model has one.
  3. Check the vent hose (vented models) isn't kinked, crushed or blocked, and that the outlet isn't obstructed.
  4. Make sure the room isn't unusually cold or the machine tightly boxed in with no air to draw.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
