What C10 actually means
C10 isn't a fault at all — it's one of the service test positions inside the dryer's engineer diagnostic mode, the one that plays back the last three alarms the machine recorded.
On these Electrolux dryers (EDR14/EDR16 electronics), turning the programme dial round to position 10 in diagnostic mode tells the control board to display its three most recent stored alarms, newest first, in the Exx format — E42, for example. So if you're seeing C10, the machine has been put into service mode rather than developing a new fault. The real information is whatever E-code it then shows you; that's the code worth looking up.
What usually causes it
- The dial was turned while the machine was in diagnostic mode, usually by accident
- Someone has been reading the stored fault history and left it in that position
- A key combination was held during power-up or programme selection, dropping it into service mode
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and select a normal programme — that clears service mode
- Write down any Exx code the display shows before you clear it; that's the fault the machine actually logged
- Take the lint filter out and rinse it, and check the heat exchanger filter, since those warnings are the most common genuine ones on these dryers
