Electrolux E32 washing machine: what it means & what to try

What E32 actually means

The machine can't get a steady "empty drum" reading from its water level sensor at the start of the cycle, so it stops with the door locked rather than risk filling blind.

At the beginning of a wash, Electrolux machines drain out and then zero the electronic pressure sensor so they know what an empty tub looks like. If that reading keeps drifting while the calibration is running, the control gives up and pauses the cycle with the door locked. Very often it is water creeping in when it shouldn't \u2014 or draining back down the outlet hose \u2014 rather than a failed sensor.

What usually causes it

Water seeping past the inlet valves so the level never settles
Drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe or hung too low, siphoning water in and out
Leak or split in the air trap/pressure sensor hose under the tub
Faulty electronic pressure sensor
Wiring to the sensor, or the main control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the tap off, then on again, and check the water is running at a normal rate
Look at where the drain hose enters the standpipe or sink trap hat that it sits deep in standing water \u2014 it should be a loose fit with an air gap, not pushed right down
Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked, squashed behind the machine or looped down onto the floor
Clean the pump filter at the front and check the machine drains fully
Press Start/Pause or cancel and restart the cycle \u2014 this code won't clear by switching off at the wall alone, it needs the cycle reset
