What E41 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it has paused the cycle.

Before filling, the control board energises the door lock and waits for confirmation that it has engaged hat's a matter of seconds. If it doesn't get that confirmation, or the door signal drops out for a couple of seconds mid-cycle, it pauses and shows this fault. On some models it retries the lock a few times first, so you may hear repeated clicking before the code appears.

What E41 looks like on a Electrolux washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux washing machine, E41 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Door not pushed fully home, or laundry trapped in the seal stopping it latching
  • Worn or failed door interlock (the commonest finding on these)
  • Sagging door hinge or a worn catch so the hook doesn't line up with the lock
  • Damaged wiring to the interlock, often where it flexes behind the front panel
  • Fault on the main control board driving the lock

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door, push any laundry clear of the rubber seal, and close it firmly until you hear it click
  2. Check nothing (a sock, a coin, a stray item) is caught in the catch or the striker plate
  3. Press Start/Pause to clear the pause switching the machine off at the socket alone won't clear this one; the cycle needs resetting
  4. If it locks but then drops out again, try a smaller load an overpacked drum can push against the door

Which Electrolux models show E41

E41 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
