What E47 actually means
The machine has tried to lock the door but never got confirmation that the lock actually engaged, so it carries on washing but refuses to spin.
Electrolux washers use a heated wax element (PTC) in the door interlock to hold the door shut. The control board powers that element for six minutes and waits for the lock to report itself closed \u2014 if that confirmation never arrives, E47 is logged. The wash continues, but the machine won't spin, because it can't prove the door is safely locked.
What usually causes it
- Failed wax motor/PTC element in the door lock assembly
- Door lock not reporting its status back to the control board
- Door not fully pulled to, so the catch never seats properly
- Damaged wiring or connector at the door lock
- Less often, a fault on the main control board driving the lock
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door, check nothing is trapped in the seal or catch, and close it firmly until it clicks
- Look for a stray sock or washing wedged between drum and seal holding the door slightly proud
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short cycle
