What E37 actually means
The machine's main circuit board has lost a sensible reading from one of its safety water-level sensors, so it has stopped the cycle and kept the door locked.
Electrolux washers use anti-boiling pressure switches as a safety back-up, making sure the machine never heats with too little water in the tub. On E37 the board's sensing circuit for the second of these switches is reading a stuck value rather than a changing signal, so the control can no longer trust it. The programme is blocked and the door stays locked, because the machine will not risk heating blind.
What usually causes it
- A fault on the main control board itself \u2014 by far the most common finding on this code
- Damaged or corroded wiring between the board and the pressure switch
- Moisture or damp getting into the control area
- Occasionally a genuinely failed pressure switch, though the board is usually at fault
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short cycle \u2014 an occasional one-off glitch will clear
- Note whether the door stays locked and the code returns straight away; that tells the engineer it is a persistent board fault rather than a blip
