Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E65 actually means

The dryer has lost control of the fan that blows air through the drum, and the control board has flagged the switching device that drives that fan as faulty.

On these ENV06-board Electrolux dryers (and the AEG and Zanussi equivalents built on the same electronics), the fan motor is switched by a component on the control board called a triac. If the board can't switch or can't see the fan motor as it should, it raises this fault rather than run a heated cycle with no airflow. On the display models it shows as E65; on the flashing-light fascias you'll see six green flashes followed by five red.

What E65 looks like on a Electrolux tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux tumble dryer, E65 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end
  • Takes hours to dry
  • Drum not turning
  • Won't spin
  • Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
  • Turns one way only

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A loose or disconnected plug on the fan motor wiring
  • A failed or seized fan motor
  • The triac on the control board has gone open circuit
  • Damage to the wiring between board and fan motor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try again — occasionally the fault is memorised from a one-off and clears.
  2. Clear the lint filters and the condenser/heat exchanger filter if your model has one, so the fan is not fighting a blocked airway.
