What E75 actually means

The machine thinks its wash temperature sensor isn't sitting properly against the drum, so it can't trust the temperature reading and stops heating the water.

During a heating stage the control board watches how quickly the wash temperature climbs. If it doesn't rise by the expected amount within the expected time, the machine concludes the wash NTC (the temperature sensor) has come out of its seat on the tub and is reading the air around it rather than the water. Once that happens it skips all heating for the rest of the programme — so the cycle usually finishes, but on a cold or lukewarm wash.

What usually causes it

  • Wash temperature sensor dislodged from its housing on the tub
  • Sensor reading outside the range the control board accepts
  • Damaged or loose wiring to the sensor
  • Faulty heating element, so the water never warms and the machine blames the sensor
  • Control board misreading the sensor signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Reset the cycle, or press start/pause at the end of the programme — note that switching the machine off at the wall will not clear this particular alarm
  2. Run a hot wash and see whether the door glass and drum stay cold to the touch, which confirms no heating is happening

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
