What E83 actually means
The machine can't make sense of the programme setting it's being given, so it won't start a cycle.
The control board reads a code from the programme selector to know which wash you've chosen. With E83 the code coming back doesn't match any programme in the machine's configuration data, so it has nothing valid to run and stops. On the drum side nothing is actually wrong i a mechanical sense the selector reading or the board interpreting it is at fault.
What usually causes it
- Faulty or worn programme selector switch
- Control board fault, or board configuration data lost or wrong
- A replacement board fitted without being configured to the model
- Damaged wiring between the selector and the control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the programme dial fully round to a clearly marked programme and try again toccasionally it is sitting between positions.
- Switch the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and reselect a programme.
