What E93 actually means
The washing machine's own settings data has become corrupted or doesn't match, so it won't allow a wash to start.
Every machine stores a configuration file telling it what model it is and what it can do. Each time it powers up it checks that data against a stored value; if the two don't agree, it assumes the settings are unreliable and blocks the cycle rather than running blind. This is a fault in the machine's memory or main control board, not in anything you've done.
What usually causes it
- Corrupted configuration data in the machine's memory
- Faulty main control board
- A power surge or interruption while the machine was switched on
- Control board replaced or reprogrammed with the wrong settings
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute, then switch it back on and see if the code clears
- Press Start/Pause or turn the programme selector to off to reset the current cycle
- If the code returns every time you power up, the fault is genuine and needs an engineer
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
