What E94 actually means
The machine's internal settings for the wash programmes have become corrupted, so it has locked itself out rather than run a cycle it can't verify.
When an Electrolux washer powers up it checks its stored software settings against a built-in verification figure. With E94 the part covering the wash cycle data doesn't match, so the control board blocks the cycle and shows the fault. It's a software/configuration problem on the main board, not a mechanical fault with pumps, valves or the drum.
What usually causes it
- Corrupted cycle software data on the main control board
- A power surge or interruption while the machine was switched on
- Main control board fault or failing memory
- Wrong or incomplete software loaded during a previous repair or board replacement
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it a full minute, then switch back on — a one-off glitch can clear
- Select a different programme and see whether the code returns
- Make sure the machine is plugged straight into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or adaptor
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
