What E99 actually means
The dryer is set up as a coin- or payment-operated machine and it can no longer see the coin meter, so it refuses to run a cycle.
This is a commercial/launderette code rather than a domestic one. The control board expects to be talking to a payment device (coin meter or equivalent) and that device has either been disconnected or has stopped responding, so the machine halts cycle execution rather than giving away free drying. Nothing is wrong with the drum, heater or airflow — the fault is purely on the payment/communication side.
What usually causes it
- Coin meter unplugged or physically removed from the machine
- Loose or damaged connection between the meter and the dryer's control board
- Coin meter itself has failed
- Machine's settings still configured for payment operation after the meter was taken out
- Control board fault on the dryer side
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then back on — occasional communication drop-outs clear this way
- Check the coin mechanism isn't jammed with a stuck coin or foreign object in the slot
- If the meter has been deliberately removed, note that for the engineer — the dryer needs reconfiguring for free-vend operation, it won't run as-is
