What H02 actually means

The machine has decided the heating element isn't working, so the water won't warm up.

During the wash the control board checks the heater circuit. When it finds an open circuit — no current flowing through the element or its wiring — it flags this fault and stops trying to heat. In practice you'll notice the wash finishing with cold water, or the cycle hanging at the point where it should be heating up, and the clothes coming out poorly washed on a longer programme.

What H02 looks like on a Flavel washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel washing machine, H02 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Not filling with water
No water going in
Takes for ever to fill
Stops right at the start of the cycle
Not heating the water
Washing coming out cold
Cycle takes far longer than it should
No function at all

What usually causes it

The heating element itself has failed internally (by far the most common finding)
A wiring connection to the heater has worked loose or corroded
The temperature sensor circuit reading incorrectly, which can look like a heater fault
A fault on the main electronic control board driving the heater

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and try a short cycle — this clears a one-off glitch and shows whether the fault is stored or live.
Run a cold wash if you need to get a load done; the machine will normally still fill, wash and spin without heating.
