Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What H05 actually means

Water is getting into the drum when it shouldn't be, and the machine has cut the cycle short to avoid overfilling and flooding.

On this Flavel the control board watches the water level while filling. H05 is logged as an uninterrupted water-inlet fault when the level keeps rising even though the machine has stopped calling for water so rather than let the tub overfill, it halts and usually tries to pump out. What the owner tends to see is a machine that fills or drains on its own, sometimes even when the programme has finished.

What H05 looks like on a Flavel washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel washing machine, H05 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water
  • Standing water in the bottom
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Water inlet valve stuck partly open, so it keeps letting water through
  • Water level (pressure) sensing system giving the board a false reading
  • Blocked or split pressure hose between the tub and the sensor
  • Control board no longer closing the valve properly

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and see if the code returns straight away.
  2. Turn off the water tap at the wall if water still trickles into the drum with the tap closed, the inlet valve is the likely culprit and worth mentioning when you book.
  3. Check the fill hose isn't kinked or crushed behind the machine.
  4. Make sure the drain hose end sits at the height given in the instructions and isn't pushed too far down the standpipe, as that can siphon water back and forth.

Which Flavel models show H05

H05 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
