What E11 actually means
The machine has lost a proper electrical connection to the drum motor, so it has stopped rather than carry on without being able to turn the drum.
The control board drives the motor and expects a signal back telling it the drum is turning at the right speed. On E11 that circuit is broken he motmotor's speed feedback never completes, so the board shuts the cycle down. Owners usually report the drum sitting still, or the machine giving a sudden jerk of movement and then stopping.
What E11 looks like on a Grundig washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig washing machine, E11 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Drum not turning
- Won't spin
- Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
- Turns one way only
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A broken or unseated wiring connection between the control board and the motor
- A fault in the motor itself inor its windings
- A failed motor drive circuit on the control board
- A faulty speed sensor on the motor, so the board never sees the drum turning
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and start a short programme an occasional one-off glitch will clear
- Check nothing has jammed the drum a coin, underwire or stray sock trapped between the drum and the tub can stop it turning
- Make sure the load is not so tightly packed that the drum cannot move
Which Grundig models show E11
E11 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Tried the checks and it's still showing E11?
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. Then it wants someone who can open it up.
