What E15 actually means

The machine has lost a sensible signal from its flowmeter — the small sensor that counts how much water is going in.

Grundig machines measure fill by counting pulses from a flowmeter on the water inlet, and cross-check that against the level sensor. When the control board sees either a short circuit or no signal at all from that flowmeter, it logs E15. Grundig's own service notes point out that the customer often can't tell anything is wrong — the wash may carry on more or less normally — so this frequently turns up as a stored fault rather than a machine that has stopped dead.

What usually causes it

  • Loose or dislodged plug at the flowmeter itself
  • Loose connection at the KN20 socket on the control board
  • Damaged or chafed wiring between the flowmeter and the board
  • Faulty flowmeter
  • Fault on the control board's sensing circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code returns
  2. Check the inlet hose is not kinked and the tap is fully open, so the fill is at normal pressure
  3. Clean the inlet filter where the hose meets the machine if fills have been slow

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
