What E25 actually means
The control panel and the machine's main circuit board have stopped talking to each other, so the washer won't take instructions.
Grundig washing machines have two boards: the display/control panel you press, and the driver (main) board that actually runs the motor, valves and pump. E25 means the driver board is no longer receiving the display's signals — often because the ribbon/plug between them has come loose or the 5-volt supply from the power board has dropped out. The result is a machine that won't start, ends a programme early, or shows a dead panel with no lit LEDs and unresponsive buttons.
What usually causes it
- Loose or partly unseated connector between the display panel and the main board
- Damaged or chafed communication cable between the two boards
- No 5-volt supply reaching the driver board from the power board
- Failed driver (main) board
- Failed display board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute, then power it back up — an occasional one-off communication glitch clears this way
- Check the plug is pushed fully home in the socket and the machine is on its own supply, not a loose extension lead
- Try selecting a programme and pressing start again after the reset; note whether the panel lights up at all, as that helps the engineer
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
