What E32 actually means

The machine can't get a sensible temperature reading from the sensor in the drying air duct, so it won't run the drying part of the cycle properly.

These Grundig washer-dryers use an NTC temperature sensor in the heater duct to watch the air temperature after the condenser. If the control board reads a value outside the expected range — typically because the circuit has gone open or short, rather than because the machine is actually too hot — it flags E32. The usual complaints are that the programme runs on far longer than it should and the load comes out still damp at the end.

What E32 looks like on a Grundig washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig washing machine, E32 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not heating the water
  • Washing coming out cold
  • Cycle takes far longer than it should
  • Noisy fan
  • Not getting cold evenly
  • Cuts out after a few minutes
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A failed NTC temperature sensor in the heater duct
  • A loose, corroded or damaged plug where the sensor connects
  • A break or chafe in the wiring loom between the sensor and the board
  • Less often, a fault on the control/display board misreading a healthy sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try again — an occasional one-off reading will clear
  2. Run a wash-only programme with no drying selected; if that completes normally, it confirms the fault sits in the drying side and the machine is still usable for washing in the meantime

Which Grundig models show E32

E32 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Grundig E32 myself?

There are 2 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try again — an occasional one-off reading will clear.
  2. Run a wash-only programme with no drying selected; if that completes normally, it confirms the fault sits in the drying side and the machine is still usable for washing in the meantime.

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried them.
