What E02 actually means
The machine can't heat the water he heating element, so it has stopped and flagged the heater as electrically broken.
E02 on a Grundig washer means the control board has looked for the heating element and found no electrical circuit through it im story is a heater that has failed open, often after limescale or a hotspot has burnt the element. Washes may still fill and turn, but the water stays cold, and the machine may halt the cycle rather than carry on. It's usually reported as "washed once hot, now never heats".
What usually causes it
- Heating element burnt out or failed open circuit
- Corroded or disconnected wiring at the heater terminals
- Element damaged by heavy limescale build-up
- Fault on the control board's heater circuit
- Damaged heater thermal cut-out or in-line connection
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and start a short cold wash to see whether the code returns
- Run a cold programme mid if the wash completes normally with cold water, that points to the heater rather than anything else
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
