What E09 actually means
The machine can't lock the door, so it refuses to start filling or washing.
Before any Grundig washer takes water, it has to lock the door interlock and get confirmation that it's locked. E09 means the control board's output to that door lock has gone open circuit he lock, so no lock signal comes back and the cycle is halted at the very beginning. You'll typically see the door stay unlocked and nothing happen after you press start.
What E09 looks like on a Grundig washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig washing machine, E09 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Faulty door lock/interlock unit
- Break in the wiring or a loose plug between the control board and the door lock
- Failed door-lock switching circuit on the control board
- Door not fully shut, so the lock can't engage in the first place
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open and close the door firmly the tongue on the door needs to enter the catch cleanly then try the programme again
- Check nothing is trapped in the door seal or hanging over the catch
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on that clears a one-off glitch
Which Grundig models show E09
E09 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
