Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E06 actually means

The control board's switching component for the drum motor has failed short, so the machine can no longer control the motor properly and stops the programme.

Grundig uses a triac on the main electronic board to switch power to the drum motor. On these models the board has detected that triac either shorted out or behaving as a diode (passing current only one way), which means motor speed can no longer be controlled reliably, so the wash is abandoned. Typically the drum turns a few times, then the programme ends early without finishing. The fault notes tie this code to machines fitted with the UMDC type motor.

What E06 looks like on a Grundig washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig washing machine, E06 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Drum not turning
  • Won't spin
  • Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
  • Turns one way only
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Failed motor triac on the main control board
  • Damage to the board's motor output circuit after a surge or spike
  • A short in the motor wiring pulling the switching device down with it
  • A faulty motor drawing excess current and taking out the triac

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and start a short programme — if the code returns straight away it is a genuine board fault, not a glitch
  2. Take note of what the drum does before it stops (a few turns then a dead stop is the usual pattern) as it helps the engineer confirm the diagnosis

Which Grundig models show E06

E06 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Grundig E06 myself?

There are 2 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and start a short programme — if the code returns straight away it is a genuine board fault, not a glitch.
  2. Take note of what the drum does before it stops (a few turns then a dead stop is the usual pattern) as it helps the engineer confirm the diagnosis.

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried them.

Tried the checks and it's still showing E06?
