What E84 actually means
The washing machine's Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module isn't talking to the rest of the machine, so the app side of things won't connect.
E84 is a communication fault between the network (Wi-Fi/BLE) board and the machine's display board. The wash side of the machine is unaffected — it's the HomeWhiz connectivity that has dropped out, usually because the ribbon/plug between the two boards has come loose or the network board itself has failed.
What E84 looks like on a Grundig washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig washing machine, E84 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Machine tripping the electrics
- E84 flashing on the display
- Beeping and showing E84
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Loose plug between the Wi-Fi board and the display board
- Damaged or pinched cable between the two boards
- Network board never properly paired or set up with the HomeWhiz app
- Faulty Wi-Fi/BLE board
- Faulty display board (less common)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up — the fault sometimes clears on a restart.
- Re-run the setup in the HomeWhiz app, including removing the machine from the app and adding it again.
- Check your home Wi-Fi is working and the router is within reasonable range of the machine.
Which Grundig models show E84
E84 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Common questions about Grundig E84
What does E84 mean on a Grundig washing machine?

Can I fix Grundig E84 myself?
There are 3 checks you can safely do yourself first.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
