Grundig E27 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What E27 actually means

The machine is seeing water arriving in the drum when it hasn't asked for any, so it stops rather than let the level keep rising.

Grundig's control board cross-checks the flowmeter (which counts water passing into the machine) against the water level sensor. E27 is raised when those two readings don't agree with what the programme should be doing — typically water continuing to trickle in when the fill valve is meant to be shut. On the service flowchart it is listed alongside unnecessary water intake and water leakage, which is why it's treated as a stop-now fault rather than a nuisance warning.

What usually causes it

A fill valve not closing fully, so water keeps seeping through
A fault in the flowmeter or the dispenser group it sits on
Water siphoning back through a drain hose that has been pushed too far down or run too low
Water level sensor or its pressure hose giving a false reading
Wiring or control board fault on the flowmeter circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the water tap off at the wall — if you can hear or see water still entering the drum with the machine switched off, that points at the fill valve and needs an engineer.
Switch off at the socket for a minute, then power up and try a short cycle; a one-off sensor glitch will sometimes clear.
Look at how the drain hose is routed — the end should be at the height the instructions specify and not pushed deep into a standpipe or hanging down into a sink of water, as that can siphon water through the machine.
Check the floor around and under the machine for damp, and stop using it if you find any.
