What E29 actually means
The machine has measured the mains electricity supply coming into it and decided the voltage is outside the range it will safely run on, so it has stopped rather than carry on.
Grundig's control board watches the incoming mains voltage. If it reads too low or too high (the service data works to a lower limit around 150V AC), it flags E29 and halts the programme. Owners often notice the symptoms before the code appears \u2014 washes taking far longer than normal and the water not getting properly hot, because the heater cannot do its job on a poor supply.
What usually causes it
- A genuinely weak or unstable mains supply at that socket
- Extension leads, adaptors or a long lead dropping the voltage
- Loose or worn socket or plug connection
- The board's voltage-sensing circuit misreading a supply that is actually fine
- Nearby high-load appliances or generator/inverter power causing dips
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Plug the machine straight into a wall socket, not an extension lead or multi-way adaptor
- Turn it off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme
- Try a different wall socket on a different circuit if one is within reach of the hoses
- See whether lights elsewhere in the house dim or flicker, or other appliances play up \u2014 that points at the supply rather than the machine
- If you have a generator, inverter or a known unreliable supply, try the machine on normal mains
