What E26 actually means

The control board's memory can't be read or written to, so the machine won't run a programme at all.

Every wash programme relies on settings stored in a memory chip (the EEPROM) on the main control board. When the board can't read that memory back correctly, it refuses to start rather than run blind — so the usual symptom is a machine that lights up and shows the code but does nothing else. Grundig's own service handbook goes straight from this code to replacing the main board, which tells you it is treated as an internal board fault rather than something with an external cause.
