What F02 actually means
The dishwasher hasn't taken in the water it expected, so it has stopped before washing anything.
F02 on a Hotpoint dishwasher points to the water fill side of the machine — the fill solenoid valve, the impeller jug (the small flow meter that counts water going in) or the water chamber that feeds it. The control board expects a certain amount of water within a set time; if it doesn't see it, the cycle is abandoned and the code is shown. On models without a digital display you'll see it as a flashing light pattern rather than the letters and number.
What F02 looks like on a Hotpoint dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Hotpoint dishwasher, F02 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start

What usually causes it
- Water supply turned off, or the inlet hose kinked or crushed behind the machine
- Blocked filter in the inlet hose connection restricting flow
- Faulty water inlet (solenoid) valve not opening
- Impeller jug / flow meter not registering the water passing through it
- Restriction or blockage in the water chamber slowing the fill rate
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the dishwasher is fully open — worth doing if any plumbing work has been done recently.
- Look behind or under the machine and make sure the inlet hose isn't kinked, trapped or squashed by the machine being pushed back too far.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and start a cycle to see whether the code returns.
- If your kitchen tap runs slowly too, the problem may be mains pressure rather than the dishwasher.
