What F05 actually means
The machine hasn't managed to pump the water out in the time it expects, so it has stopped with the drum still full.
The control board can see the drain pump is electrically connected and running, but the water level isn't dropping within the allotted time. It halts the cycle at the drain or spin stage, usually leaving standing water in the drum and soaking wet washing. This is a flow problem rather than a dead pump — that would show as F11 instead.
What usually causes it
- Blocked pump filter — coins, buttons, hair grips and fluff
- Something jammed against the pump impeller so it turns but shifts no water
- Kinked, blocked or badly fitted waste hose at the sink or standpipe
- Blocked sump hose between the drum and the pump
- Worn drain pump, or a pressure switch that never sees the level fall
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a couple of minutes, then try a drain or spin programme again.
- Clean the pump filter behind the flap at the bottom front — have a shallow tray and towels ready, there will be water.
- Check the waste hose isn't kinked, crushed behind the machine or pushed too far down the standpipe.
- If the sink waste it drains into is slow, clear that blockage first — a blocked household waste will trip this every time.
