What E15 actually means
The machine has sensed the water or air inside getting hotter than it should and has shut the cycle down to protect itself.
Montpellier E15 is a high temperature error. The control board watches the temperature sensor and, if the reading climbs past the safe limit for the programme, it cuts the heating and stops rather than risk damaging the drum, seals or your washing. It usually points to the heating or the sensing that controls it rather than anything you've done wrong.
What usually causes it
- Faulty temperature sensor giving a false high reading
- Heater stuck on because the control board is not switching it off
- Wiring or connection fault at the sensor or heater
- Control board fault
- Very low water level in the drum so the heater runs dry
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and try a cold wash to see if the code returns.
- Check the water tap is fully open and the fill hose is not kinked, so the machine can fill properly.
- Clean the pump filter at the bottom front and make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe.
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
