What E17 actually means

The temperature sensor for the drying side of the machine isn't giving a sensible reading, so the machine has stopped rather than risk heating without control.

E17 is a dryer NTC (temperature sensor) fault. The control board reads that sensor to manage the drying heat, and if the reading is out of range or missing altogether it shuts the cycle down. Washing may still work on some models, but the drying function won't be usable until it's sorted.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a wash-only programme to see if the code clears
Check the machine isn't running in a very hot or badly ventilated spot, and that nothing is blocking airflow around it
Clean the filters and make sure the drum isn't overloaded before retrying
