What E01 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is properly shut and locked, so it won't start or has stopped mid-cycle.

Before any wash begins, the door lock has to close and report back to the control board. E01 means either the lock never engaged, or it lost that confirmation part-way through a programme. As a safety measure the machine halts rather than turning the drum with a door it can't guarantee is secure.

What usually causes it

  • Door not pushed fully shut, or laundry trapped in the seal
  • Worn or faulty door lock (interlock)
  • Bent or misaligned door catch/striker so it doesn't engage
  • Wiring or connection fault between the lock and the control board
  • Failed control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door, check nothing is caught in the seal, and close it firmly until you hear it click
  2. Look at the catch on the door and the hole it goes into for anything obviously bent or blocked
  3. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short programme
  4. Don't overload the drum — laundry pressing against the door can stop it latching

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
