What E09 actually means
The machine isn't happy with the electricity reaching it \u2014 the supply voltage is either too high or too low, so it has stopped the programme.
E09 is a voltage error. The control board constantly monitors the mains supply, and if it drifts outside the range the machine is designed for, it halts the cycle to protect the motor and electronics. Sometimes it's a genuine problem with the supply in your home; other times it's the machine's own power circuitry or board misreading it.
What usually causes it
- Mains voltage dipping or surging in the property
- Extension lead, adaptor or a poor socket connection
- Other heavy appliances on the same circuit dragging the voltage down
- Faulty wiring connection inside the machine
- Fault on the main control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall, leave it a minute, then switch back on and try a short cycle.
- Plug the machine straight into a wall socket \u2014 no extension lead, no travel adaptor.
- Try a different wall socket if there is one nearby and the hoses will reach.
- See whether it fails only when other big appliances (oven, shower, tumble dryer) are running.
- Check whether other appliances in the house are playing up or lights are flickering \u2014 that points to the supply rather than the washer.
