Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E11 actually means

The main control board has lost contact with the drying section's own control board, so the machine has stopped.

On washer dryers, the drying side has its own small control card that talks to the main board. E11 means those two are no longer communicating properly, so the machine halts rather than run the dryer blind. It's an internal electronics fault code, not something caused by how you loaded or used it.

What E11 looks like on a New World washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a New World washing machine, E11 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Very noisy on spin
  • Banging or knocking
  • Moving across the floor
  • Load left soaking wet because it won't spin up
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A loose or corroded plug between the two control boards
  • A failed dryer control card
  • A fault on the main control board
  • Damaged wiring between the boards, often from damp or vibration
  • A brief electrical glitch or power spike that upset the boards

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it a minute, then switch back on and try a short programme — this clears a one-off glitch
  2. If it will run a wash but not a dry, note that and mention it when you book the repair
