What E15 actually means
The machine has sensed the water or air inside getting hotter than it should and has stopped the programme to protect itself.
E15 is a high temperature error. A temperature sensor has reported a reading above the safe limit for the programme being run, so the control board halts heating and ends the cycle. It usually points to a heating or sensing fault rather than anything you have done wrong.
What usually causes it
- Faulty temperature sensor giving a false high reading
- Heating element staying on when it should switch off
- Control board fault on the heating circuit
- Very low water level in the drum while heating, from a restricted fill or blocked filter
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a cold wash to see if the code returns
- Check the water tap is fully open and the fill hose is not kinked
- Clean the pump filter at the bottom front of the machine and make sure the drain hose is not squashed
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
