What E02 actually means

The machine isn't getting enough water in, so it has stopped the programme.

E02 means the washer expected the drum to fill within a set time and it didn't. It could be that water isn't reaching the machine at all, or it's coming in too slowly, so the cycle halts rather than washing with a dry or half-filled drum.

What E02 looks like on a New World washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a New World washing machine, E02 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Water supply tap turned off or only part open
  • Kinked or trapped fill hose behind the machine
  • Blocked filter in the fill hose or at the tap
  • Low water pressure in the house at that moment
  • Faulty fill valve or pressure/level sensor inside the machine

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check the tap feeding the machine is fully open
  2. Look behind the machine and straighten any kinked or squashed fill hose
  3. Try running a cold tap nearby to confirm you have mains water pressure
  4. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme
  5. If the machine is full of water and door is locked, wait for the programme to end before opening

Which New World models show E02

E02 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
