What E06 actually means
The machine has lost track of how fast the drum motor is turning, so it has stopped the wash.
E06 is a motor fault. The control board relies on a small speed sensor (tachometer) on the motor to know the drum speed; if that signal is missing or shorted, or the motor's plug has come loose, the board can't control the drum safely and halts the programme. It usually shows as the drum not turning at all, or the wash stopping early.
What usually causes it
- Loose or disconnected motor plug
- Faulty motor speed sensor (tachometer)
- Worn motor brushes or a failing motor
- Damaged wiring between motor and control board
- Fault on the main control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short programme — this clears one-off glitches.
- Check the drum turns freely by hand when the machine is off and there's nothing trapped inside.
- Take out some of the load in case the drum is heavily overloaded, then restart.
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
