Servis E14 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E14 actually means

The dryer side isn't producing any heat, so the machine has stopped the drying part of the cycle.

Servis washer dryers have two drying heaters and a temperature sensor (the dryer NTC) sitting in the airflow. The control board switches a heater and the fan on and watches for the air temperature to climb; if it hasn't risen by roughly 10°C after three minutes it gives up and shows this code. In the service the fault it is described as a dryer heater thermostat or heater fuse fault — in other words the heating circuit has been broken, usually by a safety cut-out that has tripped, or the board isn't seeing the heat that is being made.

What E14 looks like on a Servis washer dryer

What usually causes it

A blown thermal fuse or tripped thermostat on the dryer heater — the most common finding by far
Restricted airflow from a blocked condenser channel or heavily packed drum, which is what causes the cut-out to trip in the first place
A failed dryer heating element
A faulty dryer temperature sensor (NTC) reporting no change even though the heater is working
Loose or burnt connections at the heater or the control board sockets

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn it off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and start a drying programme — occasionally the code is a one-off latch
Take out about half the load and try again; overloading the drum chokes the drying air and trips the cut-out
Make sure the cold tap is fully open, as this type of washer dryer needs cold water flowing to condense the moisture
Check the room isn't very cold or the machine isn't boxed in tightly — the fault specifically ask whether the surrounding conditions are suitable
Check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe
