What E01 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is locked, so it won't let the cycle start.
Before any Servis washer dryer will take water or turn the drum, it energises the door interlock and waits for confirmation that the door is latched shut. If that confirmation doesn't come back, the control board stops there and shows E01 — one of the handful of codes the manuals expect an owner to see, alongside no-water, pump and overflow faults. It shows up the same way across the WD1496 series and the LD/WD single models.
What E01 looks like on a Servis washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis washer dryer, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Overfilling, or won't stop filling
- Stops with water still inside
- Fills and drains over and over
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed shut hard enough to click home
- Washing or a stray item trapped in the door seal, holding the door off the latch
- Worn or sagging door catch so the hook no longer seats in the lock
- Failed door interlock (the part that locks the door at the start of a cycle)
- Loose or damaged wiring to the door lock, or a control board fault
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door fully, then close it firmly until you hear a definite click, and try again.
- Check nothing is caught in the seal — a sock or corner of a duvet in the door edge is a very common cause.
- Look at how the door sits when closed: if it drops or rattles against the frame, the catch is likely worn.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on and restart the programme.
- If the drum is full of water and the door won't release, don't force it — that needs an engineer.
Which Servis models show E01
E01 means the same thing on all 6 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Servis E01 myself?
There are 5 checks you can safely do yourself first.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
