What E09 actually means
The machine has measured the mains voltage reaching it as too low or too high and has stopped the cycle to protect itself.
The control board watches the incoming supply and expects it to sit between roughly 170V and 260V. Outside that window it halts the programme rather than run the motor, heater and pump on a supply that could damage them. On these Servis washer dryers E09 is one of the handful of codes the machine will show to the owner rather than keeping it hidden in the service test, so you'll see it on the display mid-cycle.
What E09 looks like on a Servis washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis washer dryer, E09 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- Drum not turning
- Won't spin
- Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
- Turns one way only
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Poor supply through an extension lead, adaptor or long trailing socket
- A loose or worn wall socket, or a bad connection in the plug
- Genuine dips or surges in the household mains, sometimes at times of heavy demand
- Voltage-sensing circuitry on the main control board reading incorrectly
- A faulty mains filter or supply connection inside the machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall, leave it a minute, switch back on and restart the programme — a one-off voltage dip will clear.
- If the machine is running through an extension lead, adaptor or multi-way block, plug it directly into a wall socket instead. This is the single most common fix we find.
- See whether lights elsewhere in the house dim or other appliances misbehave at the same time — that points at the supply, not the machine.
- Try a different wall socket on a different circuit if one is within reach of the hoses.
Which Servis models show E09
E09 means the same thing on all 5 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Servis E09 myself?
There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
How much does it cost to repair Servis E09?
£66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it, or £84 in total including VAT if it is put right on the visit and no parts are needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Tried the checks and it's still showing E09?
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. Then it wants someone who can open it up.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
