What E05 actually means

The machine can't get a sensible reading from the temperature sensor in the wash drum, so it won't heat the water.

E05 is the washer NTC (temperature sensor) fault on these Servis washer dryers. The control board reads the sensor's resistance before it switches the wash heater on; if the reading is outside the range it expects, or the sensor is unplugged or open-circuit, it flags E05 rather than heat blind. The same code comes up if the heater runs for its full period and the water temperature barely moves — so a dead heating element can show as E05 too, not only a faulty sensor.

What E05 looks like on a Servis washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis washer dryer, E05 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end
  • Takes hours to dry
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Faulty washer temperature sensor (NTC) in the tub
  • Sensor plug pushed off or corroded at the connector
  • Wash heating element failed, so the water never warms
  • Damaged wiring between the sensor and the control board
  • Control board fault misreading the sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and restart a short cycle — an occasional one-off reading will clear.
  2. Note whether the drum water is stone cold at the end of the cycle; that points at the heater rather than the sensor, and it's worth telling the engineer.

Which Servis models show E05

E05 means the same thing on all 5 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
